Selling in the Consumer Exchange (The Sellers Guide)

What can I sell on the Consumer Exchange?
The Consumer Exchange is open to a wide range of sale items. However, not everything can be sold online due to various local, state, federal and international regulations. To help your online sales effort, we have assembled a list of items that raise special concerns. View the complete list here.

How do I sign up to sell an item on the Consumer Exchange?
Selling in the Consumer Exchange is easy! After you register with uBid, you can start selling and making money immediately!! At this time the uBid Consumer Exchange platform does not support sellers outside the United States. For additional information regarding international sales, please contact cxsupport@cs.ubid.com.

How do I set up my auctions once I'm signed up?
From My Page you can select My Auctions to access a tool called the Auction Manager. The Auction Manager is where you control the auction process from beginning to end! There are three main Auction Manager Tools--Add Product, View Product and View Auctions--which are indispensable on the road to greater profit potential. Just follow these easy steps to get moving. To learn more about using the Auction Manager, click here.

Step 1 - Build your inventory of products
First, use the Add Product tool to add your inventory of products into our database. You can add as many products as you like! When you add products, you are actually building templates, which will be used for all future auctions of this product. Make sure you have all your product information handy when you're ready to begin. You may list a product for auction no more than four (4) times per day. View a list of restricted products on uBid. Products that have not been part of a live auction for 45 consecutive days will be deleted from your inventory list automatically.

Step 2 - Create and run your auctions
Next, use the View Product tool to look at all of the products you have entered and make sure all information is correct. You can delete a product, view a product, and create a new product. You can also start creating auctions. When an auction goes live, millions of visitors a month will have the opportunity to bid on your merchandise!

Subscriptions
The following subscription packages are available to maximize the impact of your auctions:

Bold Package – unlimited bolding of auctions for $24.99/month

Highlight Package – unlimited highlighting of auctions for $39.99/month

uPackage – unlimited bolding and highlighting of auctions for $49.99/month

Please note that subscription fees are non-refundable, and remain in effect until you choose to cancel the subscription.  All subscription fees are charged in increments one month.  Subscription fees are not pro-rated.

Reserve Price
A reserve price auction is one that the seller has specified a dollar amount (unknown to the bidders) that must be met before he is obligated to sell the item(s). Sellers may use this tool to ensure receiving a fair price they are comfortable with on their auctions, or perhaps they are unsure of the real value of the item. The reserve price the seller set at auction creation will always be above the minimum bid price, or the price at which the auction begins. When a bidder's maximum bid is equal to or greater than the reserve price, the item's current price is raised to the reserve price. At this time, the information shown on the product page and in the bid history will indicate that the reserve price has been met. There is a non-refundable fee of $.50 charged for every Reserve Price auction that opens.

Why should I Create an Auction with the uBuy It Feature?
Do your customers play the waiting game - and hate every second of it - while your auctions tick away the minutes until they're closed? Are there buyers dying to purchase your items immediately, so they don't have to go through the agony of "almost" winning - only to lose out to a last-second bidder?
With uBuy It, bidders become buyers with one click of the button. When you list your auctions, simply select the uBuy It option (free during the introductory period) by entering your UBI price. With uBuy It, you specify the price at which you are willing to sell the item immediately, which means faster transactions at the price you select.

Step 3 - Check for winners and ship
Finally, use the View Auctions tool to see all of your auction activity at a glance. You can view any of your auctions, get current status, and see how the products are performing. You can also see who the lucky winners are in your closed auctions so you can contact them to complete your transaction.

What are the general seller's guidelines for offering products in the Consumer Exchange?

These guidelines are recommendations that are designed to protect both the buyer and seller, as well as promote safe and profitable transactions within the Consumer Exchange. We are committed to providing the best auction community possible, and these guidelines will be enforced. Sellers who fail to comply with these guidelines will have their accounts disabled.

  • Sellers will place their products in appropriate categories. That is, a category that is directly representative of the product. Products placed in inappropriate categories may be closed at uBid's discretion.

  • Sellers will not post items for sale that are prohibited by uBid. A complete list of items may be found at http://www.ubid.com/help/topic58.asp.

  • No seller should create or disseminate any online advertisement that has a deceptive format or that otherwise purports to be something other than an advertisement.

  • Where necessary to prevent deception, online advertising should disclose clearly and prominently that it is advertising.

  • Sellers should not disparage any person or group on the grounds of race, religion, national origin, gender, age or sexual orientation, or include indecent or offensive content.

  • Sellers should use particular care when offering products designed for use by children.
