Online Charity Auction Features Celebrity Suits

 

MIAMI, FL - October 22, 2001 - Suits donated by OPRAH, Diane Keaton, Rosie O’Donnell, Kim Cattrall, Tori Spelling, Alex Kingston, Susan Sarandon, Gloria Estefan, Courteney Cox Arquette, Gloria Steinem, Susan Taylor, Ming-Na, Shaun Robinson, and many others will be auctioned online at uBid.com to benefit The Women’s Alliance, a not-for-profit organization that has helped over 100,000 low-income women transition from welfare to work.  The Celebrity Suit Auction hosted by uBid.com, a leading online auction and e-commerce marketplace, will begin on Monday, November 12, 2001 and continue through December.  All proceeds will benefit the program activities of The Women’s Alliance and its members.  Additional celebrity suits and information on east and west coast briefings will be announced shortly.

 

Also featured in the auction are items of African-American designers: Honey Child, founded by Tracy Wilson Mourning; Her Game 2 (HG2), created by Deborah Williams; Pat Adams at Crossover Designs, Inc.; and Sylma Cabrera at Pure Soul Designs.

 

Since the early 1990s, members of The Women’s Alliance have been working at a grassroots level to improve the lives of low-income women across the country.    The success ratio of women who have participated in WA member programs is outstanding.  Over the past 10 years, WA member groups have reported an average of 65-70% of their clients have become employed.  In addition, since 1991, WA members have served over 100,000 women nationwide (now 25,000 annually) – women who have gained the training, clothing and confidence necessary to succeed in job interviews and the workplace. 

 

The Women’s Alliance is a national organization of independent community-based members who provide professional attire, career skills training and related services to low-income women seeking employment.  The Women’s Alliance strengthens our members through organizational and program development, fundraising, marketing and public relations.
