UBID RANKS NO. 2 IN TOTAL REVENUE SHARE IN ONLINE AUCTION MARKET

ACCORDING TO NIELSEN//NETRATINGS AND HARRIS INTERACTIVE

CHICAGO, IL – July 5, 2001 – uBid, a leading retail online auction and e-commerce marketplace and majority-owned operating company of CMGI, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMGI), ranks No. 2 in total revenue share in the online auction market, according to the May eCommercePulse issued by Nielsen//NetRatings and Harris Interactive.

The eCommercePulse findings come concurrently with uBid’s recognition as the Top E-Business Winner in the Internet Companies Category in this year's InternetWeek 100, an annual study conducted by InternetWeek magazine that highlights the 100 biggest and most successful businesses across 10 major industries that are leveraging Internet technologies to drive e-business results.  And, increasing transaction loyalty among users is reflected in uBid’s consistent ranking as a leading e-commerce merchant based on actual credit card transactions as measured in the NextCard E-commerce Index.  uBid rounded out the top 5 list in May 2001, which included Amazon, eBay, Half.com and 1-800 Flowers, in that premier metric of monthly online consumer spending.

“We believe our success and growth is due to the incredible value we provide consumers through a niche business-to-consumer/small business marketplace,” said Alan Cohen, senior vice president of marketing at uBid. “This marketplace has allowed us to provide consumers with significant savings and product warranties on brand name products via our relationships with leading manufacturers such as Hewlett-Packard, Sony and Compaq.

“We have converted niche focus into consumer loyalty, providing the foundation for our future work,” Cohen added.

According to the Nielsen//NetRatings and Harris Interactive report, consumers spent $556 million at online auction sites in May, up 149 percent from the preceding year and up 65 percent from the preceding month.  Spending at online auction sites comprised 10 percent of U.S. consumers’ overall spending in May, up 2 percent from the same time last year.

The Nielsen//NetRatings’ report is based on an online survey of 35,000 randomly selected Web users, which collects information on Internet user behavior including, spending, demographics, and customer satisfaction.
